Migration Overview
myfamily.com is turning over a new leaf...A brief background
Back in 1998, we set out to create an online service geared towards bringing families closer together. Folks were looking for a simple way to use the internet to share news, view photos, and keep track of events - and over the past decade, myfamily.com has proven to be the perfect solution for millions of them.As technology has evolved and the popularity of myfamily.com has grown for nearly a decade, we've often worried about the day when our beloved service just wouldn't be able to meet the demands placed on it by today's families. So in late 2006, we started working on the next generation of family web sites by launching a new service called "myfamily.com 2.0".
What is myfamily.com 2.0?
We believe that myfamily 2.0 is the best place on the web for getting the entire family together in a safe, fun environment.Much like our 1.0 service, myfamily 2.0 enables you to create a family web site that includes everything you need to easily share family photos, plan family events, build a family tree, collect recipes and share news about each other's lives. However, by leveraging today's latest technologies and techniques, the new 2.0 service opens up a whole new world of possibilities for helping you stay connected to those who matter most. We've already introduced new features like videos, narrated stories and online voice messages, and we'll be adding many more as we continue to enhance myfamily 2.0.
So what's this migration all about?
In 2007, we announced that we would automatically transfer - or "migrate" - all 1.0 sites to the new 2.0 system. During that time we've received lots of feedback about a mandatory migration, and thanks to the passion and dedication of myfamily 1.0 users, we've learned that there are three primary arguments for keeping that service up and running:- 1.0 just works - "It meets our needs. Why change?"
- Change is painful - "No matter how great this new thing may be, or may become, my members have spent years on 1.0 and they know how to use it. Learning a new system is just something they and I don't want to have to go through again."
- 2.0 isn't ready - "2.0 lacks the feature or features we need, or isn't user-friendly enough that I want to make a switch."
