It's Time For Spring Cleaning

While cleaning your house may be a chore, it's quick and easy to get your home on the web nice and neat. Get a head start on your spring cleaning by organizing your myfamily.com site today, no vacuum or mop required.
Create Albums
The best way to manage the photos on your site is to place them in albums. You can make as many albums as you'd like and they can be about anything, so create one for last year's vacation or one that contains photos of your children. You can even place a single photo into multiple albums. Using albums makes it much easier to find your photos, too.

Update Contact Info
The Contact List is a great place to keep contact information for all members of your myfamily.com site. But as people move, change their phone numbers or their email addresses, the Contact List can become outdated. Spend some time updating and verifying the contact information for all your site members. An accurate Contact List helps keep your family members in touch with one another.

Resend Pending Invitations
Some of the invitations you've sent from your site may have gone to old email addresses or the people you invited simply forgot to respond. Invites that are sent but not accepted can be found in the 'Pending Invites' section of your myfamily.com site. If you have pending invitations on your site, it's easy to edit and resend them.

Scan Your Photos
While it's simple to upload your digital photos to your myfamily.com site, don't forget about those older photos you've stored away in shoeboxes and old family photo albums. With the help of a scanner, you can turn your photo prints into digital photos and then upload them to your myfamily.com site. Because of the memories they inspire, people on your site will really enjoy seeing these old photos, and they'll be more likely to add some of their own.

Make Photo Discs
Just as you can put all your photos onto your myfamily.com site, you can also backup all the photos on your site onto CDs or DVDs. Or, if you prefer to have paper copies of any photos on your site, you can easily make prints of anything on your myfamily.com site. Visit the myfamily.com store for more details.

How Do You Use myfamily.com?

Mom & Dad on their 55th wedding anniversary
"Our 92-year-old mother died from a brief illness last summer. She and Dad have five living children, 21 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Mom left a number of old scrapbooks and boxes filled with news clippings and photos. I've been putting these memories in four-ring binders so that we can save them for future generations. I discovered that my family members really enjoy looking at the pictures and clippings, so I also developed a myfamily.com site named after my parents and invited my siblings and their families. Every couple of days I add new pictures, news clippings or whatever else I happen to find in my mother's collection. I've even added pictures of some of her treasures (which are modest but very precious to us) that have been passed on to grandchildren.

The grandchildren enjoy viewing pictures of themselves as toddlers and their parents as teenagers. My siblings enjoy looking at pictures of Mom and Dad from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, many of which they've never seen before. Photos of our family cabin, Christmas celebrations and family fishing trips also bring back memories for us all. And everyone was very surprised to see Dad's "Well Baby Report" from 1912 that his mother kept for many, many years. We are very grateful that our mother kept all these cherished items tucked away in drawers, envelopes and scrapbooks. Our myfamily.com site has been a great way for our family to share these memories with a large family that is spread across the country."

Featured Recipe - Corned Beef & Cabbage
Corned Beef & Cabbage submitted by:
Shirley Ward
Brownwood, TX
"This cabbage and corned beef recipe was my mother's favorite and I fixed it for her every three months. My mom passed away after a year-long illness and one month to the day after her passing, my granddaughter little Emilee Jane was born. She is named after my mom and step-dad. She was Jane and he was Lee. I plan on preparing this meal for Emilee."

Ingredients:
1 corned beef roast
3 heads cabbage, cut into quarters
8-10 small red potatoes, whole
2 medium onions, cut into big slices
6 carrots, sliced
1/2 Teaspoon rosemary

Directions:
Put corned beef in large pot, cover with water and simmer for about three hours. Add cabbage, small whole red potatoes, onions, carrots and rosemary. Cover and continue to simmer until potatoes are done (about thirty minutes). Remove everything and cook liquid down to about 4 cups. Add 2 Tablespoons vinegar. Pour liquid over vegetables and serve with thin slices of beef.
